AGE: c. 1850’s
SIZE: 79” X 86”
LOCATION FOUND: Upstate NY
DESCRIPTION: This is an amazing collection of very early fabrics including ombre prints, Prussian blues, double pink and chrome yellow. This quilt has a stunning intensity in color. There are 45 8” squares assembled on point separated by 3" sashing of a stunning yellow-gold color fabric. Be sure to view the pictures so you can view some of this fabric. The quilt edge is done with a half design of the squares, giving the quilt a sense of a border. The back is muslin.
CONDITION: The fabric in this quilt is stunning, incredibly vibrant and crisp. It appears to never have been washed or used. It is all hand pieced and quilted at an even 8 stitches per inch in outline quilting with cable stitching in the sashing. The binding is hand done. Six of the squares show fabric deterioration, which are pictured. The quilt is well worth the restoration or can certainly be used as is, as it displays beautifully.

Circa 1860's Vintage Wild Geese Chase Quilt

SIZE: 83" x 67"
LOCATION FOUND: California
DESCRIPTION: Beautiful brightly colored Wild Geese Chase Quilt in double pinks, green, and turkey red with varied fabric Flying Geese border. The fabrics the maker chose are dainty, delicate prints creating an overall stunning design. Hand pieced and quilted at and even 7-8 SPI, stitches per inch. Quilting is varied including: cross hatching, double rodding, and diagonals 1/2" apart. Quilt has a thin cotton batting.
CONDITION: Quilt is sturdy and in very good condition. The colors are vibrant. Two ends are slightly soiled and there are a few stains however do not detract from its beauty. Only one piece of fabric is worn.

1870 Whitework Antique Flower Quilt

SIZE: 77 ½” x 55 ½”
LOCATION FOUND: Mass
DESCRIPTION: This is a very unusual folk art quilt. This is considered a whole cloth whitework bedcover which has an artist splash of color appliquéd to the quilt. The whitework quilts provided an opportunity to display exquisite needlework. This quilt’s fabrication is based on a center whole cloth panel measuring 35” x 55”which is densely quilted and surrounded by a 10” wide border. It appears to have been perhaps made for a child’s small bed from the 1800’s. It would display beautifully on a twin bed. This quilt is all hand sewn in tiny even stitches approximately 10 STI. The quilting design consists of intersecting circles which creates an overall flower design. The border consists of individual quilted flowers. There is no batting. The appliquéd pieces are a turkey red which is pleasantly muted and one yellow circle with the same soft hue.
CONDITION: This quilt has some light surface dirt which would most likely lift off with soaking. The fabric is sturdy without tears, holes, or split seams. The design and quilting would surely bring liveliness to a twin or day bed.

1880 Album Quilt

1880’s Album Quilt: Circa 1880’s
SIZE: 78” x 78”
LOCATION FOUND: Lewisburg, Pa.
DESCRIPTION: This is a beautiful quilt done in a uniform and pleasing color palate of double pinks and paisleys madder browns, characteristic of this time period. The 10” blocks are on point and are separated by 3 ¼” sashing. The quilt is surrounded by a saw tooth border on all four sides.
CONDITION: The quilt is all pieced by hand and quilted at approximately 7 STI. It has a very thin batting. There quilt is sturdy without wear, holes or split seams. There is slight overall surface dirt which most likely would lift with soaking. There are 2 very small stains on the front (pictured) and a few larger stains on the back which do not come through to the front. One square has a few perhaps bleach marks however does not detract from the quilt beauty and is not very noticeable. This quilt displays beautifully on a double bed.
